The Poem:

I think
What goes down must come up
For at this low you won’t be stuck
And as you go you’ll cry, you’ll sing
Or lay there still on blades of green
To valleys yes you will return
But brave hearts climb and softly roar:
”I’ll meet you at the top once more”

~Kayla Cornwell

Inspiration:

Part of the Forgiveness Collection, this piece captures the open freedom of true forgiveness, and that forgiveness is a process. The hills and valleys in this piece show there will be ups and downs while in the process. It's more like a long hike, not a sprint.

My Story:

I used to think forgiveness was a one time event and after that the case was closed—I could no longer be hurt and everything was ok. But what I’ve learned is that forgiveness is a process! I think this is what Jesus meant when he said to forgive your brother 70x7! When I was forgiving “too fast and easy” it was usually out of fear and codependency. I was desperately trying to save the relationship irrespective of the pain I was in. This usually resulted in me bottling up my hurt and kept the other person from the natural consequences of their offense.

The process of forgiveness includes taking the time to know and grieve your losses. It means you may have to grieve and forgive again and again as you uncover more about what happened. It means you are choosing to live a lifestyle of freedom from what has happened to you. Much like a down and up climb through the hills.
