The Poem:

I snuck away to our secret place
Unraveled, so open, I’m safe
It is here that I shout out my anger and fear
It is here that you hold me and capture my tears
Then you give me that smile and I start to laugh
Up we stand and we race to the treeline and back

~Kayla Cornwell

Inspiration:

Part of the Forgiveness Collection, this piece captures the open freedom of true forgiveness. Specifically it’s about that quiet (even if it’s made at the top of your lungs) choice to forgive that can only happen between you and God.

Make the choice to forgive with God before you tell the other person. Or you may never tell the other person depending on your circumstances. That’s the feeling of this painting. That quiet place where you and God hash it out. You may yell, scream, cry or just sit in silence, but it’s just the two of you and it’s safe.

My Story:

I had never really done this before. Bring my list of hurts and specifically tell them all to God and then make the choice to forgive them with Him beside me. It was so powerful. I'm tearing up now just thinking about it. It gave me the courage I needed to tell some people I forgave them and the closure I needed with those who it was unsafe to tell.
