The Poem:

Hey little bird,
Look how big is that sky
Look how it’s calling you up there to fly
"No no" said the bird "I’m scared of the air
Scared to be happy, scared that I’ll care"
But Oh little bird feel the breeze on your wings
Think of the freedom that flying will bring
Spread them out wide for this you are worth
Birds were not made for the dust of the earth

Part of the Forgiveness collection, this piece embodies the open freedom of true forgiveness.

My Story:

Have you ever been comfortable in your hurt, bitterness, or unforgiveness? I stopped flippantly forgiving and took a year to process and grieve, but at the end of that time I found myself almost scared of further healing, scared of what it would feel like to let go of my unforgiveness, scared to live an empowered identity and no longer live as a victim. Almost scared to be happy again? … Because maybe they’d forget how much they hurt me, maybe I would fall back into my old ways of dealing with it etc., etc.

But then I started forgiving… you know, the process? First, I wrote everything out. Specifically listing what I was forgiving, I gave it to God and told him I choose to forgive all of it. Nothing instant happened but over time the relief and freedom started settling in. And it was oh so good.

I hope this painting reminds you that you, my friend, were not made to live in bitterness, unforgiveness, or to be a prisoner to your anger or hurt.

Jesus didn’t die to leave you there. “Whom the son sets free he shall be free indeed” John 8:36

Take the time you need, and I promise you: true forgiveness is worth it. ❤️
